HLB Science announced on the 3rd that the 'peptide-based multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria (super bacteria) new drug technology (DD-S052P)', which is being carried out as part of the 'Infectious Disease Prevention and Treatment Technology Development Project', a national project of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, will be developed in 2022. (R&D) announced that it was xxxselected for excellent performance.
DD-S052P is a low-toxic synthetic peptide technology with a dual mechanism that kills bacteria and neutralizes endotoxin by combining with endotoxin (LPS). It can be applied to the field of sepsis for which there is no developed treatment yet. Sepsis has a mortality rate of up to 50%, and the number of deaths in Korea alone exceeded 6,400 last year.
In non-clinical studies, DD-S052P eliminated bacteria living in infected organs and lowered endotoxin and inflammatory cytokine levels to normal levels. According to HLB Science, the research results were included in the '2022 Healthcare R&D Excellence and Case Study' recently published by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute.
In addition, while carrying out the task, HLB Science received approval for a phase 1 clinical trial plan (IND) for the development of new antibiotics for the treatment of sepsis and superbacteria in France, and is currently preparing for clinical trials. Phase 1 clinical trial will be conducted with 72 healthy subjects to confirm the safety, tolerability and blood pharmacokinetics of DD-S052P.
A company official said, "Sepsis is an incurable disease that causes systemic inflammatory reactions that damage major organs and lead to death. Our technology has been recognized as a national health and medical achievement." We will do our best to achieve results in technology export.”
