AI Model Optimization and Self-Manufacturing Solutions…"Patents are a measure of national competitiveness."
Nota, a technology start-up that has presented a lightweight and optimization solution for artificial intelligence (AI) models that has emerged as a hot topic of the times, has won the grand prize at the 4th Korea Venture and Startup Patent Awards.
The 4th Korea Venture and Startup Patent Awards ceremony, co-hosted by the Maeil Economic Daily and the Korean Barley Society and sponsored by the National Intellectual Property Commission, the Korean Intellectual Property Office, and the Venture Business Association, was held at the Maekyung Media Center in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 29th of last month. Fifty people attended the ceremony, including Lee Kwang-hyung, chairman of the National Intellectual Property Committee, Lee Jin-woo, editor-in-chief of the Maeil Business Newspaper, Kim Doo-kyu, chairman of the Korean Barley Society, Jupiter Ho, deputy director of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, Yoo Jeong-hee, head of the Venture Business Association, and officials from award-winning companies.
"Intellectual property is the competitiveness and source of added value between companies and countries," Chairman Lee Kwang-hyung said. "As a department in charge of Korea's intellectual property policy, we will systematically support it to break down old regulations in the field of science and technology and improve research efficiency."
Chairman Kim Doo-kyu said, "The era of technological hegemony, intellectual property is a measure of Korea's national competitiveness and key to sustainable growth," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that the outstanding technologies of small and medium-sized ventures and startups can lead to excellent patents, and we will help our companies compete in the global market based on the strong weapon of patents."
Nota, the winner of the grand prize, is a student start-up company of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). It has developed "NetsPresso," an AI model optimization platform. The platform provides various functions ranging from learning AI models to lightening, conversion, optimization, and benchmarking. The core patent that contributed to receiving the grand prize this time is "how to compress the neural network model and the electronic device that performs it."
Nota CEO Chae Myung-soo said, "With this award, we feel that our will to contribute to industrial development with innovative ideas will be stronger. It will be an opportunity for greater growth in the future."
InterX, which won the grand prize, is an AI-based self-manufacturing solution company. It has built more than 150 AI self-manufacturing and digital twin solutions. Core patents relate to product surface inspection apparatuses and methods for detecting defects in products using pre-trained artificial neural networks. It takes pictures of products and generates image data to detect defects by measuring the color, saturation, brightness, transparency and reflectivity of products.
The patent was registered in the U.S. after filing for the first time in Korea. While the AI-based product surface inspection device market is rapidly expanding with an annual growth rate of 11%, patent utilization in automobile, semiconductor, electronic, and medical industries is expected to be high. "We will become a global self-manufacturing company and provide new value," said Park Jung-yoon, CEO of InterX.
RoenSurgical, Proxy Healthcare, NeuraclGenetics, Three Billionaire, HLB Science, and Zubic were awarded the Excellence Award. All of them are leading companies in the medical and pharmaceutical bio fields. RoenSurgical received the award for its robotic arm patent applied to 'zamenics', which removes stones by passing through the urethra and ureter without incision. Proxy Healthcare has developed a technology to remove 'biofilm' that causes rhinitis. It is a technology that reduces symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing by utilizing bioelectromagnetic force. NeuraclGenetics has technology to produce 'Aadenobutrient virus' (AAV). AAV is a delivery vehicle used to develop gene therapy products, and is more stable and delivery efficient than lentiviruses. Three Billionaire has technology that provides a system that can predict the pathogenicity of genetic mutations. It is expected to help predict and prevent pandemic diseases after COVID-19.
HLB Science has developed a composition for the prevention and treatment of sepsis with excellent antibacterial activity and stability. Zubic has microneedle (fine needle) technology that can be inserted evenly into the skin.
The special prize was awarded to Intro Patent and Lee Seong International Patent. It is a contribution to making patents for companies that received the grand prize and the top prize.
